The Northern side, consisting of players from Cardwell to Cairns, claimed the series after defeating the Southern All Stars side, made up of players from Ingham to Mackay and Mount Isa, in games one and two.

North Queensland Touch Association (NQTA) Executive Officer Billy Grant said the series lived up to all expectations and provided a real insight into the region’s Touch Football talent.

“The talent on show was top-class. Spectators were amazed at the level of skill displayed by the players.”

Grant said that, for many, it was the first time they had been exposed to a higher level of representative Touch Football.

“Most people across the region don’t get a chance to see the sport played at this level, so to provide an opportunity to see it in their own backyard was one too good to pass up.”

“Everybody involved has been very positive about it. They’ve all thrown their support behind it 100% and it was great to see it come to life the way it did.”

The three-game mixed Touch Football series was created to showcase the talent of the region’s representative players and was run in conjunction with the North Queensland Junior Regional Touch Championships, which Grant believes was a perfect match.

“We had over a thousand kids running around on the weekend and all of them got to see exactly what’s available at the next levels of the sport.”

“Most of the players running around in the All Stars sides started their representative career playing for their club at the NQ Junior Championships, now they get their chance to come back and show the region how far they’ve come and show the kids just how far they can go.”
