Junior State Cup North committed to Townsville City Council for 2027 & 2029

North Queensland Touch Football along with Queensland Touch Football are proud to announce a renewed partnership with Townsville City Council, confirming Townsville as the official host city for the Junior State Cup North (JSCN) in 2027 and 2029.

This announcement follows a highly successful 2026 Junior State Cup North, held from 16-18 April 2026 at Queens Park and the Townsville Sports Precinct, where more than 3,000 young athletes, coaches, referees and families came together for three days of action-packed touch football and vibrant community engagement.

The 2026 tournament reinforced Townsville’s capability to deliver major sporting events, supported by its premium sporting precincts, strong community spirit, and world?class event infrastructure.

Queensland Touch Football and Townsville City Council share a longstanding commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for young athletes across the region. Securing the 2027 and 2029 events further strengthens Townsville’s role as the home of junior touch football in North Queensland.

“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Townsville City Council. Their continued support helps deliver an outstanding experience for our young athletes and their families year after year" said Greg Denny, CEO of Queensland Touch Football.

“Townsville has proven itself to be an exceptional host for Junior State Cup North. Securing the event for 2027 and 2029 provides certainty for our region and creates exciting opportunities for young players, coaches, referees and volunteers across North Queensland,” said Renee Marsh, President of North Queensland Touch Football.

Deputy Mayor and Townsville 2032 Legacy Working Group Chair Suzy Batkovic said securing Junior State Cup North championships for 2027 and 2029 was a win for the city, particularly as touch football campaigns for inclusion in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic games.

“Securing the Junior State Cup North for 2027 and 2029 is a fantastic result for Townsville and a testament to the strong partnership we've built with Queensland Touch Football and North Queensland Touch Football over the years,” Cr Batkovic said.

"These events will bring thousands of players, families and supporters to our city, providing a boost for local businesses and showcasing Townsville as a premier destination for major sporting events.

“They will also create more opportunities for local young athletes to compete, develop their skills and be inspired through sport.

“With touch football campaigning for inclusion in Brisbane 2032, the timing could not be better. It is an exciting time for the sport and for Townsville.”

Planning for the 2027 Junior State Cup North is already underway, with a focus on enhancing participant experience, strengthening community engagement, and building on the success of the record?setting 2026 event.
